Biography
Sub-specialist in Cataract, Cornea and Refractive Surgery,
Dr. Alain Saad pursued a “fellowship” as assistant des hôpitaux de Paris in the refractive, cataract and corneal surgery department lead by Dr Damien Gatinel at the Rothschild Foundation in Paris from 2010 till 2013.
He was appointed and worked as a full time ophthalmologist in this department from June 2013 to December 2016.
In January 2017, Dr Saad was appointed as assistant professor of clinical ophthalmology at the American University of Beirut. He fulfilled his duty there until October 2020, while continuing his close cooperation and research projects with the Rothschild Foundation in Paris.
In November 2020, Dr Saad was appointed as "Praticien Titulaire" at the Rothschild Foundation.
He is also practicing at the “Argentine Medical Center” in the center of Paris and is vice medical director of the “Centre de l’oeil, Aus der Au” in Fribourg, Switzerland.
The main areas of interest of Dr Saad are:

Refractive surgery (LASIK, PRK, phakic corrective lenses (ICL), presbyopia surgeries )

Corneal surgery (keratoplasty : DMEK, DALK, penetrating keratoplasty, keratoconus, intracorneal rings )

Cataract surgery (toric lenses, multifocal lenses, trifocal lenses).
Along with his colleague and chairman, Dr Damien Gatinel, Dr Saad developed an artificial intelligence software aimed to help selecting good candidate for refractive surgery (Score Analyzer – Orbscan).
Dr Saad was among the first in France to develop specific expertise in Endothelial Keratoplasty - DMEK . This surgical technique radically changed the course of corneal disease. Dr Saad is currently an instructor, organizing training for surgeons wishing to adopt this very promising technique.
Dr Saad was also among the first to offer DMEK surgery in Lebanon and the Middle East at the American University of Beirut - Medical Center. During his 4 years in Lebanon, Dr Saad performed more than 300 endothelial keratoplasties (DMEK) and developed expertise in anterior segment reconstruction surgeries and secondary implantations.
Dr Saad has to date more than 50 publications in major international peer reviewed ophthalmology journals and more than 100 presentations at national and international meetings.
